There’s something exciting about starting something new.
It can feel a little scary, a little uncertain, and somehow completely right all at the same time.
Maybe you know the feeling.
A new job. A new home. A new relationship. A new season of life. Maybe you’re planning a wedding and realizing that the life you’ve imagined is actually beginning to happen. Or maybe you’re simply standing at the edge of something you’ve wanted to do for a long time, wondering if now is finally the time to take the first step.
That’s where I find myself right now.
Welcome to the first Val & Co. blog.
Starting Val & Co. has been a journey of growth, both creatively and personally.
Photography has given me the incredible privilege of stepping into some of the most meaningful moments in people’s lives. I’ve watched couples promise forever to one another, families gather, tears fall, and ordinary moments become memories that will be carried for generations.
And somewhere along the way, I realized I wanted a place to share more of that.
Not just the finished photographs.
The stories behind them.
The places.
The people.
The quiet moments.
The lessons I’ve learned.
And the things I’m still learning.
This blog is going to be a little corner of the internet where all of that can live.
Honestly, starting something new can feel strange.
You don’t always know exactly what it will become.
You just know that you have something worth building.
That’s how this feels for me.
I don’t have every post planned. I don’t know exactly where this little journal will take me. But I’m excited about the possibility.
Because growth rarely happens when everything is perfectly figured out.
Sometimes growth looks like taking the first step before you know where the whole path leads.
I think that’s something many of us can relate to.
Maybe you’re reading this because you’re newly engaged and suddenly have a hundred decisions to make.
Maybe you’re dreaming about an intimate wedding somewhere in the Tennessee mountains.
Maybe you’re building a business of your own.
Maybe you’re entering a completely different chapter than the one you expected.
Whatever brought you here, I hope you feel at home.
I’ve always loved the beginning of things.
The first page of a new notebook.
The first morning in a new place.
The first photograph from a new season.
The moment when an idea that has lived in your head finally becomes something real.
There is so much possibility in a beginning.
And there is also vulnerability.
You have to be willing to try.
To learn.
To grow.
To sometimes get it wrong.
And then to keep going.
I think that’s one of the reasons I love photographing weddings so much. A wedding is, in so many ways, a beginning.
Two people standing at the threshold of a new life together.
There is excitement.
There are nerves.
There are unknowns.
And underneath it all is a decision to move forward together anyway.
Maybe that’s why starting this new chapter with Val & Co. feels especially meaningful to me.
Since this is the very beginning, I want to invite you into it.
What would you actually want to read?
I have plenty of ideas floating around in my head, but I’d love for this journal to be something that feels useful, interesting, and personal to you—not just another photography blog.
Would you want to hear the stories behind the galleries? The little moments that happened before I clicked the shutter, the things you can’t see in the final images, and what made each wedding or session memorable?
Would you want to hear where I began—how I got into photography, how Val & Co. came to be, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way?
Maybe you’re interested in the practical side of photography and want to see photography tips and tricks, behind-the-scenes advice, camera knowledge, editing, or things I’ve learned from being behind the camera.
Or maybe you want Tennessee wedding and elopement inspiration, location ideas, planning advice, timelines, and things I’ve learned from photographing weddings.
Maybe you want all of the above.
So tell me in the comments.
What would you love to see me write about?
What questions do you have?
What would make you come back and read the next post?
I’m genuinely curious, and I’d love for you to help me shape what this journal becomes.
Whatever direction this takes, I know there will be stories.
I’ll share real weddings and elopements, beautiful Tennessee locations, wedding planning advice, photography tips, and the little moments that make this work so special.
But more than anything, I want to share the heart behind the photographs.
Because your wedding isn’t just about how it looks.
It’s about how it feels.
It’s about the people standing beside you.
It’s about the promises you’re making.
It’s about the laughter, the happy tears, the quiet moments, and all the things you didn’t plan that somehow become your favorite memories.
Those are the stories I want to tell.
So, here we are.
The first blog post.
The first page of something new.
I’m excited to see where it goes.
And if you’re in the middle of your own beginning right now, I hope you remember this:
You don’t have to know exactly where you’re going to take the next step.
You just have to be willing to begin.
Here’s to growth.
Here’s to new chapters.
Here’s to becoming.
And here’s to all the beautiful things waiting on the other side of the first step.
Welcome to Val & Co.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Now tell me—what should I write about next?
